Guten Tag! Grab your lederhosen because it’s almost that time of year. Oktoberfest celebrations will be kicking off this month in beer gardens across the globe. Of course, the world’s largest and most famous is Munich’s Oktoberfest which draws around six million people every year.
If you can’t get to Germany for this year’s festivities, there are plenty of places in America that take Oktoberfest very seriously. Here’s our list of the top 3 Oktoberfest parties in the U.S.
Helen, Georgia offers an authentic Oktoberfest party that can’t be missed. Only 430 residents reside in Helen, but this rural city had more than 500,000 festival-goers attend the celebrations last year. The city is a Bavarian Alps replica town and will make you feel like you’re truly in Germany.
Helen’s 46th annual Oktoberfest, hailed Funtober, will open on September 8th and includes all your favorite German fare including bratwurst and beer.
If you’re looking for a fun-filled Oktoberfest, Denver has you covered. From keg bowling to stein hoisting and even a bratwurst-eating contest, this city has everything you could want in an Oktoberfest.
With around 450,000 visitors every year, there is no shortage of friends to be made. This year, they’ll be serving up 2 for 1 drinks during their Happy Hour. As if Oktoberfest could get this good!
For one weekend a year, Cincinnati takes on a new name: Zinzinnati. This is a place where bratwurst rules the dinner menu, dancing in lederhosen is an acceptable pastime, and 100 dachshunds race in order to be crowned winner in the Running of the Wieners. (No, we didn’t make that up. Did we mention they wear hot dog bun costumes?)
From September 16-18th of this year, more than half a million people are expected to visit the city to partake in the event. Will you be one of them?
If you plan on getting a taste of Germany at one of the above Oktoberfest celebrations, let us know on social media. We’re especially interested in the outcome of the Running of the Wieners. Because, how cute are dachshunds in hot dog costumes? Or better yet, dachshunds in messenger bags!
